Hi! I'm Kiana H., a Rhode Island–certified social studies teacher with a Master of Arts in Teaching from Brown University and a B.A. in Anthropology from Wheaton College (MA). My 8 years of teaching experience spans middle school, high school, museum education, and international classroom settings.
I currently design and lead inquiry-based learning experiences for K-12 students at a public-facing cultural and educational institution, where I work with primary sources, visual materials, and project-based learning. My specialties include AP World History, AP African American Studies, AP Human Geography, DBQ/SAQ writing, research skills, and ESL (beginner, academic, and business English).
I take a student-centered, supportive approach to tutoring. I tailor each session to a learner's strengths, and learning style-whether that means strengthening academic writing, preparing for AP exams, or building confidence in English language skills.
My lessons typically follow a clear structure: I introduce the concept, model the skill, practice together, and then support students as they apply it independently. Additionally, I welcome communication from students and families and am happy to incorporate classroom materials or specific assignments into our work.
If you're looking for a supportive, and experienced educator who will help build strong writing, analytical thinking, and academic confidence, I'd love to work with you. Feel free to reach out with questions or to schedule a lesson!
