I have just completed my 18th year as a mathematics and science teacher, and it has been most rewarding.

I have just completed my 18th year as a mathematics and science teacher, and it has been most rewarding.

I earned my B.A. in Mathematics and Middle East Studies from Brown University. I absolutely loved learning in this setting. The summer after obtaining my degree, I biked from Providence, Rhode Island to Seattle, WA working on various Habitat for Humanity projects along the way. I returned to Providence and worked as a substitute teacher at a school for at-risk youth helping them catch up to their peers after being held back. This work felt so rewarding that I decided to return to Brown for my Master of Arts in Teaching. There I was certified to teach History, Social Studies and received an endorsement in Mathematics and Economics.

My teaching philosophy is guided by the belief that all students can learn, and all learning is in the service of understanding and building thinking skills. My former students have told me that I force them to think which builds their confidence in class and on assessments.

When I am not teaching, I work with physics teachers and professors to develop inclusive physics curriculum and run workshops and seminars for physics educators at institutions and conferences around the country. I do love to garden, hike, camp, and spend time in, by, and near the ocean.
