Throughout my career as an educator, I've had the privilege of working with a wide range of students, from elementary to university students. I've taught English and literature to students in grades 7 through 12, and also lectured in Spanish at the university level. Over the past several years, I've spent my time as an English Teacher, Literature Teacher, and Spanish Lecturer, allowing me to develop and refine my teaching methods. Between tutoring and being in classrooms, teaching has been the focus of my career for over 12 years. Class sizes have been from one student to over 25.
My educational background, including a Master of Arts in Puerto Rican and Caribbean Literature and a Bachelor of Arts in English, has provided me with a strong foundation in language and literary concepts. My approach to teaching is centered on creating engaging and effective learning experiences. I have designed hands-on curriculum and dynamic lesson plans to promote student interest and receptive learning. I also incorporate multimedia strategies and technology to convey information in fresh and interesting ways. When it comes to assessing student progress, I've created and designed quizzes, tests, and projects to evaluate knowledge and fluency in reading, writing, and comprehension. I believe in building rapport with students to understand and address any obstacles they may be facing, ensuring they are actively involved in their own academic success.
I find it a fundamental aspect of teaching that students become adept at expressing themselves fluidly and in a detailed, concise manner. Students that have the desire to learn will have a welcome opportunity to do so. My approach is always to make sure the material is adapted to their needs, but also their interests to ensure they feel as though the work is more personal and not strictly academic - the academic aspects will be incorporated into their instruction and will be evident in their execution of any assessments that might be required.
