Hello, my name is Kristyn-Anne! I am originally from New York, then attended the University of Rhode Island where I got my Bachelors degree in Marketing and graduated Summa Cum Laude. When my husband and I moved to Anchorage, Alaska, I went back to school to pursue my love of teaching and learning at Alaska Pacific University, getting my teaching degree and Master of Arts in Teaching. I began teaching there in Anchorage in 2010, working at a child development center and substitute teaching in the public school district.
When we moved back to the East Coast, I taught for 11 years in urban middle schools in Rhode Island. My certifications are elementary education, middle school English, and PK-12 English to Speakers of Other Languages. I have worked with children from 6 weeks - 18 years of age in school settings, and have also taught adult English classes for speakers of other languages.
My specialties and area of focus are English Language Arts and English for Multilingual Learners (MLLs), however, as an MLL teacher I have co-taught in all core subjects, including Science, Math and Social Studies. I have also taught all core subjects at the elementary level. I have experience working with large classes, small groups, and one on one. I enjoy getting to know my students and their particular learning styles in order to make material meaningful for them. It is important to me that there is a blend of rigor and humor/personal connection so that there is true understanding of the concepts. I look forward to working with you!
