Hi! I'm Camill.
I am an Orton-Gillingham (OG) certified instructor with over 2,360 hours of one-on-one instruction with students struggling with dyslexia and/or related reading difficulties. My certification is accredited by the International Multisensory Structured Literacy Education Council (IMSLEC) and includes the Instructor of Teachers certification, which allows me to train others in the Orton-Gillingham methodology. I have 7 years of experience supervising and coaching other certified teachers regarding their student cases. I have collected over 200 hours of professional development, or Continuing Education Credits, through conferences such as IDA's Annual DyslexiaCon, the PlainTalk Annual Conference, and several ALTA webinars, among others.
Before becoming an OG teacher, I taught grade 3 for nine years. I started out in Texas, where I earned my educator's certificate before moving to Puerto Rico, where I continued my classroom experience. It was in this setting that I realized something about my 'teacher toolbox' was falling short when it came to teaching reading skills. Being blessed with a reading specialist on campus who was trained in the Orton-Gillingham methodology, I began a training journey that opened my eyes to Structured Literacy and The Science of Reading. The blessing continued as I began working with students in need of this intervention and saw their resistance towards reading melt away as their confidence grew-a truly gratifying experience.
