Hello, I'm Greg! On the surface, I might look like a “natural mathematician”. After all, I aced the AP exams for Calculus and Physics; then graduated magna cum laude from my university with a BS in Mathematics, plus a minor in Computer Science; and won the ETS Field Test Prize for my graduating class.

Yet in high school, my head swam as I blundered through Algebra. Gaps in earlier courses left me stranded, and I woke from late nights with “Math” hanging over my head. Geometry turned the tide, and in time, I learned to translate more abstract concepts (like Calculus) into familiar forms: vivid imagery and concrete analogies.

As I helped my study buddies, I came to a realization. Not only did I understand the material, I also understood the pitfalls that held students back. Indeed, I loved seeing the light bulb go on in their heads.

Through five years of college, I worked as a formal STEM tutor in Physics, Computer Science, and Math. Reaching across barriers of age and education, I dive into the material and address the confusion at its source. I solidify comprehension by hammering out strategies and applying them to practical examples; yet I also adapt with impromptu meetings and review marathons. By assessing your needs, monitoring your progress, and gradually removing the training wheels, I set you on your feet with full confidence and autonomy.

I go above and beyond as a tutor, and I am proud of my impact on others. One tutee came to me, failing Business Calculus; by the end of the semester, we raised his grade to a rock-solid B. Another was lost in the weeds of a Java elective; she went on to pursue a degree in programming, with her natural talent that we unlocked. A local college officially recognized me with their Student Support Services Award “for being an outstanding peer tutor”.

Now, as always, I look forward to seeing the light bulb go on for you!

Approved Subjects

Calculus

Calculus

In my 5 Years as professional STEM tutor, I won the Student Support Services Award for being an outstanding tutor at my college. For Calculus specifically, I achieved the max score (5) on the AP exam, and maintained an A average from Calculus I through Calculus III. I went on to earn my B.S. in Math and also win the ETS Field Test Prize in Math. I specialize in breaking down complex concepts, with vivid imagery and with analogies to familiar things.
Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel

In addition to tutoring STEM for 5 years, I am an advanced user of MS Excel, with extensive experience as a Data Analyst. From pivot tables and charts, to macros and loading external data, I will expand and refine your repertoire. In fact, I have published custom software to enhance Excel at an enterprise level: libraries of VBA functions; sophisticated utilities in Power Query; and “lambdas” to supplement existing functions in Excel.
Precalculus

Precalculus

In my 5 Years as professional STEM tutor, I won the Student Support Services Award for being an outstanding tutor at my college. For Precalculus specifically, I won the Math Award as the top student in my graduating class. After achieving the max score (5) on the AP Calculus exam, I went on to earn my B.S. in Math and also win the ETS Field Test Prize in Math.
SQL

SQL

In my 5 Years as professional STEM tutor, I have inspired students to pursue degrees in Computer Science, and I won the Student Support Services Award for being an outstanding tutor at my college. As a Data Analyst for nearly 5 years, I have worked daily with SQL databases at an enterprise level. I have designed and maintained databases from scratch; queried and analyzed data for leadership; and developed custom software libraries. This applies my firm academic foundation SQL, which includes deeper concepts like schema normalization and stored procedures; along with an A average across university courses in Computer Science.
