Hello! My name is Cam, and for the past 4 years I have been apprenticing under the M Galleries art network throughout New Jersey. While there I ran numerous educational events where I instructed groups of people to both improve and become more confident in their creative writing abilities. Through both facilitation and collaboration on their years-running Elusiveness of Poetry and Creative Writing series I aided a slew of walk-in participants of various ages (most commonly 15-40 years old) in poetic form, critical literary analysis, and proper performance to enhance the resonance of their live performances.
In addition, I was a successful member of my local competitive debate team throughout my high school years, and have since utilized these skills under this artistic network to run my own workshops regarding improvisation and its applications. I have also been invited as a speaker at protests in the area for this prowess, and received a regional award for my skill as an essayist.
My methods of teaching have largely been oriented towards small groups in the past, and as a result I will be adjusting my curriculum for more one-on-one approaches as necessary. My process involves an initial meet with students to assess goals, interest, and current level of skill. After this, I can set up a week-by-week guideline of lessons which will include examples that exude what my student is striving towards, exercises to strengthen areas in need, and longer-form assessments of their work to encourage growth. Pacing is flexible with the student's needs.
It is my goal to instill students with a strong sense of fundamentals in their craft, applicable details to lift their work to the next level, and based confidence in their ability to execute. I aim to do so with explanations that are clear and concise, and more importantly with the empathy and patience required to inspire a new generation of creatives. I look forward to working with you!
