Hi, I'm Eloisa! I have tutored middle schoolers, high schoolers, and college students in math since I was an undergraduate studying mathematics. I have always loved math, and I believe there is a mathematician in everyone. While earning my Master's at Appalachian State University, I also worked teaching College Algebra at App State. Now, I am pursuing my Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on Math Education at Pennsylvania State University.

I believe confidence is key to learning mathematics. During my tutoring session, I work with my student to build up confidence by emphasizing what they already know and how that applies to the new problem in front of us. If my student gets confused, that's normal! Instead of trying the same methods over and over, confusion is the cue for me to try explaining the problem a different way. After all, our goal is to develop understanding over time, rather than just getting homework done.
I have specifically tutored middle schoolers for Common Core math in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. I have tutored high schoolers in Math 1, 2, and 3, and in Algebra 1 and 2. I have tutored college students in pre-calculus, college algebra, calculus 1, along with other undergraduate math courses. Most of this tutoring has been in-person, though I gained plenty of experience with online tutoring due to the pandemic.
Teaching is my passion, and I bring that passion to my tutoring sessions. My hope is that with time, my student will be able to tackle new math problems with minimal support, because they believe they can figure it out.
