I received a BA in Anthropology from the University of Pittsburgh in 2021. I also received a MS in Geographic Information Systems from Johns Hopkins University in 2023.
My teaching experience began informally. I had been a martial arts instructor for several years, assisting students ages four and above. The classes were entirely designed and run by me with the goal of improving not only self-defense and physical fitness, but also confidence and perseverance. I have been a private tutor since 2020 where I helped a family with three elementary school students adapt to online learning. Since then, I have worked as an online tutor, teaching a variety of subjects. I have taught math classes ranging from basic addition to algebra for elementary, middle, and early high school students. I have also taught private martial arts classes and self-developed history and anthropology classes. In all my classes, I find that it's very important to find ways to connect with the students and build rapport. I like to mix in different types of activities and problems to keep students engaged. I meet students where they're at, identify where they need work, and carefully build to a goal while ensuring that they have a solid foundation. A skill that I pride myself in is my ability to be adaptable. I've worked with a variety of students from different educational backgrounds, so I'm very capable of adapting my lesson plan and focus to the needs of the student(s).
I have taught students from ages 4 to 16, primarily in virtual group classes in which I would develop most of the curriculum. I also have a lot of experience teaching students in one-on-one virtual lessons, and some experience with in-person one-on-one instruction. I began teaching virtually in 2021 and had continued until this year. I have only taught in-person classes occasionally, with three students from 2022 to 2024.
