About Matt

Bio

As someone who once struggled to find the right learning style, I know firsthand how transformative a great tutor can be. That’s why I approach tutoring not just as a teacher, but as a mentor—someone who listens, adapts, and helps each student find their own path to understanding. I aim to make learning empowering and approachable, not overwhelming or mechanical. Students learn best when they feel heard, supported, and genuinely curious.

I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Computer Science and a 3.85 GPA from Bloomsburg University, where I was a member of the Honors College. I received the Syed R. Ali-Zaidi Award for Academic Excellence—given to one student across the entire Commonwealth University system. I’m now pursuing my Master’s at Carnegie Mellon University, one of the world’s top programs for Computer Science and Data Science. I also hold a Coursera certification in IT Automation with Python.

I’ve tutored eight students closely over the past four years in subjects including Calculus (I–III), Algebra, Statistics, Computer Science (Java, Python, Data Structures, Algorithms), and Academic English. I earned A– averages in all CS and Calculus courses, received straight As in high school Algebra, and scored a 96% on my College Calculus III final. My students—ranging from high school to college—typically improve by one to two letter grades. One student went from a C– in Precalculus to an A–, earning admission to an Ivy League university.

What sets me apart is my ability to meet students exactly where they are and guide them forward with structure, empathy, and encouragement. I don’t rush or rely on rote memorization—I model curiosity, resilience, and collaborative problem-solving. Whether you’re prepping for finals, learning to code, or strengthening your math skills, I’ll help you build confidence and competence. I also served in Student Government throughout undergrad, sharpening my communication and leadership skills.

Exceptional Computer Science Tutor

We’ve had a fantastic experience with Matt as our child’s computer science tutor. He explains complex topics like Python and problem-solving in a way that’s engaging and easy to understand. Our child looks forward to every session and has gained both confidence and a deeper love for coding. Matt is patient, well-prepared, and adapts his teaching style to suit my child's pace and interests. We’ve seen steady improvement and curiosity grow week by week. Highly recommend him to any parent looking for a knowledgeable and supportive CS tutor!

Patient and Encouraging Tutor!

I had the privilege of observing Matt work with Janey during one of their sessions, and I was genuinely impressed by his teaching style. He consistently engages her with thoughtful questions and encourages her to articulate her reasoning, ensuring she truly understands the material rather than simply arriving at the right answer by chance. This kind of intentional, student-centered approach is something we hadn’t experienced with her previous tutors on Wyzant. What stands out most is Matt’s genuine investment in Janey’s growth. Her progress since working with him has been both noticeable and meaningful. His patience, encouragement, and ability to gently refocus her when her attention drifts are remarkable. Despite his young age, Matt demonstrates the poise, professionalism, and insight of someone far more seasoned. Thank you, Matt, for your dedication and care. Your thoughtful assignments, structured follow-ups, and unwavering support are truly making a lasting impact.

Very helpful

Matt taught me Calc 1 and Calc 2. He is very helpful, he provides practice problems, he is very patient, and very cheerful. He made sure I understood concepts by going over it as many times as I needed, which is very helpful.

Knowledgeable, patient tutor

Matt looked at the problem with empathy and was able to explain things very clearly and kindly. I came out of the session with a clear understanding of how to move forward, he was able to bridge the gaps in my knowledge. All my questions were thoughtfully answered! I would come back again for another session and recommend him highly.
