Bio

Growing up, I had an interest in learning about the world. As a teenager, I discovered the richness and open-ended possibility contained in the field of philosophy, which studies large-scale questions that are often not covered in other subjects. I believe that the pursuit of knowledge is successful when the process of study harmonizes with the student’s own nature and disposition, so that learning becomes natural and joyful.

I graduated from Cornell University, B.A. Philosophy, Distinction in All Subjects, 4.0 GPA, after transferring there upon completing my A.A. in Liberal Arts, with High Honors, from a community college. Subsequently, I became a tutor. I find tutoring to be a fruitful way to offer the value of knowledge to students and learners. In my tutoring sessions, I seek that students engage with the material in a way that stands in harmony with their own interests and dispositions. I seek to create an environment where the student feels welcomed.

My skills in essay composition, analysis, and critical thinking are excellent, and I am happy to contribute to your success. I offer tutoring services in English writing, English language, English reading, philosophy, and speech and debate, as well as subjects connected to these. In philosophy, I also offer serial sessions, where we proceed through either the Republic of Plato or the Nicomachean Ethics of Aristotle in a personalized manner.

It is uplifting to see a student genuinely enter a new phase in understanding as we work together on the material. Through your study and acquisition of knowledge, you attain your own personal empowerment, and my role is to assist you in your learning path.

I offer tutoring for students and learners intending to improve their understanding in their current classes, are preparing for upcoming examinations, or simply wish to improve their understanding of a particular subject, in general. If you are interested in my tutoring services, you may contact me using the link on the Wyzant page. With kind regards, Robert.

Elementary (K-6th)

I value the opportunity to offer writing and math tutoring to students and learners at the K-6 level. I graduated from Cornell University with a B.A. in philosophy, and value student success and the aspiration to learn and grow. I began tutoring at the K-6 level in 2023, and have experience teaching arithmetic, story composition, and reading skills at the K-6 level. As an example, with a particular 3rd grader who was present in a noisy setting, I brought his attention back to the tutoring session by encouraging him to compose his own stories; we worked on writing using an approach that resonated with his own disposition and area of confidence. In another example, with a child around 5 years old, she was inclined to draw her answers in her own rhythm and style, and I invited this approach, as I believe that tutoring instruction thrives when students can appropriately participate with their own agency. I like to craft my teaching to suit the unique interests and disposition of the student, so the student feels engaged, at ease, and confident to approach the subject from self-motived interest. My education has given me the skills and experience appropriate for offering good tutoring instruction at the K-6th level. My study of ancient Greek philosophy, which included looking at the art of dialectic, has helped me to engage the independent intelligence and creativity of the student in a meaningful way.
Philosophy

Philosophy

Philosophy has been a core part of my education, where I completed a B.A. in philosophy with a 4.0 GPA from Cornell University. Moreover, philosophy is a genuine interest of mine, and I continue to do philosophy on my own. Philosophy is integrated, in a certain way, in my way of life; I feel that my personal connection to philosophy correlates with an ability to offer valuable tutoring in the subject. In philosophy, furthermore, I offer serial sessions where we proceed through either the Republic of Plato or the Nicomachean Ethics of Aristotle, section by section, examining the content critically.
Writing

Writing

My educational experience in philosophy enables me to offering excellent instruction in writing and composition. I received my B.A. in philosophy from Cornell University with a 4.0 GPA, and have experience assisting others with their own essays, both informally and in paid tutoring. Writing has been an important part of my life for a long time, and I am happy to offer my tutoring instruction in writing for your success.
