I graduated with a BA in English from Johns Hopkins University, then went on to earn an MA in English Literature from Yale University, and an MS in narrative medicine from Columbia University. While in college, I began tutoring family members and friends in English literature, reading comprehension, and academic writing. Post-college, I started working for tutoring companies. As an SAT, ACT, SSAT, and ISEE verbal tutor, I have tutored high school students in English language and literature, academic research, essay outlining and drafting, and test prep for the specific sections. I have also tutored elementary through high school students in both English language and literature and math for the SAT and ACT. I strive to think positively every day and I love adventure and the capacity to go beyond my dreams in as many areas of life as possible. I hope to inspire students to do the same as well.
My academic and artistic achievements have been honored through the receipt of numerous awards, including the Cherry Krassner Law Award (for achievement in history), the University of Pennsylvania Alumni English Book Award (for achievement in English literature), the Talner Jeweler's Art Award (for achievement in the visual arts), and the Black Scholars Award from the Westchester Black Scholars Society (for academic achievement as a high school student). I was also inducted into the National Honor Society in high school.
I like to structure sessions around active engagement from the student, therefore I invite the student to frequently voice their opinions and feedback. My teaching style is active yet easygoing. I think it's important that students don't feel that learning is a chore but rather an opportunity to demonstrate their best qualities and to tap into the best versions of themselves, whatever that means to them regarding their academic 'identity.'
