Hello, I'm Ron. Thank you for considering me to tutor math!

In addition to my listed specialties, I am happy to teach just about any high school math class (including IB), various undergraduate courses, Business Calculus, competition preparation, adult learners, etc.

I have a M.A. in Mathematics from a top school (UC Berkeley), an Education Specialist (post-Masters) degree in Math Education, and a co-major in Computer Science. I was a certified high school math teacher in the State of Georgia and the Province of Ontario. I taught high school briefly, at a community college for two years, and at the university undergraduate level as a graduate student. I tutored math for hundreds of hours.

I have recently returned to tutoring after some years. Meanwhile, I have had a successful career as a Software Engineer (mostly in the I.T. of a financial services corporation). My work in that world has honed my communication and mentoring skills.

My tutoring approach is simple: We go with the problems or questions that YOU are having. YOU set the agenda. Spending an entire session on a single question until you understand it clearly is much more valuable than rifling through a big set of problems in a superficial manner. Above all, my goal is to boost your confidence in tackling mathematical challenges.

In the process of solving problems, we will make use of strategies that probably sound familiar and intuitive but are underutilized: Draw a Diagram, Make a List, Solve a Simpler Related Problem, Work Backwards, etc.

If "Back-to-Square-One" instruction is needed, then that is what we will do: At your own pace. Pinpointed to where you actually need it.

Communication will be key in our sessions: I will ask you to verbalize your thinking through problems: This will actually help you solve them. Even when studying on your own, I strongly recommend thinking out loud.

Calculus

Calculus

Calculus is often taught as a "cookbook" of formulas and procedures to memorize, but this approach quickly breaks down as problems become more complex. I specialize in helping students develop a deep, intuitive understanding of Calculus. My goal is for students to see the motion, change, and accumulation behind derivatives and integrals, so that formulas feel like natural consequences of reasoning rather than rules to memorize. I support students across the full spectrum of secondary and university mathematics: AP AND IB CURRICULA (AB, BC, AA, AI) I focus on the key conceptual "leaps" that students find most challenging. We build a rigorous in LIMITS AND CONTINUITY ensuring students truly understand what a limit represents — not just how to compute one. For RELATED RATES and OPTIMIZATION, we emphasize visualizing how quantities change together, so students can track relationships instead of guessing equations. For BC and IB Analysis (AA) students, we demystify SERIES CONVERGENCE AND ERROR BOUNDS by connecting them to approximation — understanding how infinite processes build finite results, why they work, and how accurate they are. Students move beyond memorizing tests to recognizing patterns and behavior. COLLEGE CALCULUS SEQUENCE (CALC 1 - 4) I provide targeted support across the full university sequence, from core differentiation and integration to the challenges of MULTIVARIABLE CALCULUS. At the advanced level, I use geometric and physics-based analogies to make abstract ideas tangible. Students learn to see VECTOR FIELDS as fluid flow, and to interpret GRADIENT, CURL, AND DIVERGENCE as meaningful physical behaviors. This transforms multiple integrals and line integrals from procedural tasks into concepts they can reason through. As a former teacher with a Master’s in Mathematics and Education, I don’t believe in shortcutting understanding. I equip students with the thinking tools needed to reach logical certainty. This approach not only improves grades, but prepares students for the demands of unive

I have a B.A. in Mathematics and Computer Science, and an M.A. in Pure Mathematics. In pursuing those, I have taken many courses and otherwise studied topics that fall under the "Finite Math" umbrella: Linear Algebra, Probability, Statistics, Logic, Set Theory, Game Theory.
Geometry

Geometry

Geometry is often the first time students move away from calculations and into formal logic and proofs. For many, it feels like learning a new language. I specialize in helping students develop a geometric intuition — the ability to "see" why a theorem must be true before trying to prove it. Whether we are mastering Two-Column Proofs, exploring coordinate geometry, or developing spatial reasoning, my goal is to help students realize that the math is not just a collection of random rules, but a system that actually makes sense. As a former teacher with a Master’s in Mathematics and Education, I don’t believe in "short-cutting" understanding. My approach is patient and visual, using clear diagrams and real-world analogies to build a solid conceptual foundation. I don’t just help students find the answer; I teach them how to justify their reasoning, which is the essential bridge to success in Honors and AP-track Geometry. My goal is to equip students with the thinking tools they need for high-level math and beyond. I would be happy to schedule a free 10-minute consultation via phone or video to discuss your student's specific goals and how we can unlock their potential in Geometry.

A great teacher. Very patient, knowledgeable, thorough, and professional.

Ron is a great teacher. He knows the topics and understands how to solve the problems instantly. He explains things in a way that helps students truly understand how to solve problems. He explains the concepts patiently and shows that he cares about the student's growth. He makes sure the student really knows the content. His lesson is neither too fast nor too slow. Those paces are easy for students to follow and understand. His summary after every lesson is beneficial and explains the essence of the lesson. I highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for a good tutor.

excellent tutor

Ron was able to help my daughter fill in the missing concepts in her multi variable calculus class that was causing her challenges. He helped her visualize the problems, rather than solely answer the problem. He quickly helped identify her issues that enabled her to make forward progress. Well done.

Knowledgeable and adaptable

Ron did a great job teaching concepts to my daughter from her Differential Calculus class. She had to miss a class and there were no problems online for her to review with him. Instead, we told Ron about the concepts covered and he created an hour long introduction and review of those concepts so that she'll be up to speed for her next class. Greatly appreciated!

Great session!

Ron is great, patient, and really knows his stuff. He is good at understanding the best pace for teaching and breaking down tough topics in Calculus AB. I like that he has his camera on during teaching - makes the session more engaging and easy to follow. I have had other tutors that don't have the camera on and that makes things more difficult.
