I'm Linda! I graduated from college with a Bachelor's degree in political science. For me, I always knew that I wanted to do research and find out the answers. To me it's always been like solving a mystery. So, I went to graduate school and became a librarian specializing in the law. For many years I was the law librarian for the federal courts. In that capacity I essentially tutored the judges and their law clerks and interns on researching the law and other subjects including helping with writing and grammar. My knowledge of government and politics and the system is extensive. I knew that it was important that I provide the best information to the Court because it could ultimately affect someone's life. I was responsible for summarizing court opinions during my career. Needless to say I also wrote many papers during my undergraduate and graduate years.

While working full-time for the Court I earned my law degree at night. It was a long 4 years, but, I achieved my goal. So, I know what it is like to struggle and balance school work with other things in your life. Let me help you make your journey a little easier. I know how to patiently work with students of all ages and guide them.

I want to help you in being the best you can be. I have spent a career helping others in their journey and needs let me help you on yours.

American History

American History

For many years I was the law librarian for the federal courts in Pittsburgh. My extensive reference and research for the Court involved knowledge of American history. You cannot really understand and provide reference assistance without knowing the history of this country. History has always been of interest to me. My current volunteer activities include working with the librarians at the Heinz History Center.
Criminal Justice

Criminal Justice

For more than 30 years I held the position of Law Librarian for the federal courts providing extensive reference and research to the judges, their law clerks and interns. In that capacity I worked on many issues involving the criminal system of justice from the crimes to evidentiary issues to sentencing and prisoner rights. Under the umbrella of criminal justice there are many procedural and substantive issues that arise. Having worked with the Judiciary, as well as, the prosecutors and defense attorneys give me an insider's understanding of the nature of the criminal justice system.
English

English

The ability to write and write well is so important. I have seen good and bad writing as the law librarian for the federal courts. It does not matter what subject you are writing about. The ability to write a sentence that conveys the information completely and concisely is the goal. You have to be engaging yet not too wordy. I always say that I really learned how to write well when I took Freshman English during my first year in college. That ability served me well during my career. If I can convey what I know to others that would be very rewarding.
European History

European History

I have been a librarian for the federal courts for many years. In order to provide the best research and understanding of the law knowledge of history is so important. Context is so important. In addition to my law degree I have a BA in Political Science. I also volunteer with the Heinz History Center where I will be a judge for the National History Day competition.
Government & Politics

Government & Politics

I held the position of law librarian for the federal courts providing extensive research assistance to the judges and their staff. Providing this level of research to the Courts required an in-depth knowledge and understanding of all issues regarding the government. In addition to my law degree I earned my Bachelor's degree in Political Science. So I have both practical and academic knowledge of Political Science and Government.
Law

Law

For over 30 years I held the position of Law Librarian for the federal courts. In that capacity I was responsible for providing extensive legal reference and research to the Judges, their law clerks and interns. The information that I provided to the Court ultimately helped a judge to render a decision which affected someone's life. And I took that responsibility very seriously. I was also responsible for summarizing and indexing the Court of Appeals opinions as they were published by the Court for an intranet newsletter. During my many years with the Court I researched many different areas of the law. Thus, I am knowledgeable many different issues that may arise in a court of law. I attended law school at night while working for the Court full-time. So, I know what it is like to have to have the best study habits and to use your time wisely. It was grueling, but, it only made you want to achieve your goal even more. I also passed the Bar Exam on the first attempt. I feel that I have much to offer as a tutor in many issues and areas of the law. And I hope to be able to continue to help others to achieve their goals. In essence I have been tutoring others in the law for my entire career.
Proofreading

Proofreading

For many years I held the position of law librarian for the federal courts. In addition to providing extensive reference and research to the judges and their law clerks I summarized court opinions. The opinion summaries were compiled into a newsletter which was distributed to the Court. I spent a lot of time proofreading. My work experience I feel would make me a great help to anyone needing proofreading help.
