Kana Sensei is a Knowledgeable and patient tutor. When I would say something or ask a question Kana Sensei would stop talking and listen to me. We were enjoying the lesson so much that we went over an hour.

I will start by saying I'm a bit of a unique case. I approached Kana after 5 years of self study and learning to help fill in cracks and gaps in my knowledge, as well as help me with my listening and speaking ability. Living in the states doesn't provide much opportunity for practicing Japanese face-to-face, so I knew that having one-on-one sessions with a private tutor would probably be of extreme benefit to me. I was not mistaken when choosing Kana as my teacher. I'm naturally a very shy person, so when it comes to speaking a foreign language, that shyness is multiplied tenfold. I was astonished at how quickly I was able to ease up and become comfortable with Kana. After just one lesson my nervousness has mostly evaporated, and I started really looking forward to every lesson. She is warm, kind, and has lots of interesting stories about her time living in Japan. She brings Japan's culture right to the table and really helps you immerse yourself in Japan's world. I probably spend ~20 minutes or so of each lesson just talking to her about her experiences...in Japanese! As for actual contents of the lessons themselves, I can only speak for myself, as every student's situation and approach may be different. However, what I can tell you is that Kana is making all of her teaching materials from scratch, and are great at both giving you good practice, and insight into Japan's culture. Her methodology for testing your knowledge and ability are stellar. And she's always open to questions when you need help, or don't understand something. Overall I am extremely happy with my lessons with Kana, and can assure you she can provide an excellent learning environment for your Japanese learning needs! まずは、僕の場合はほとんどの生徒とちょっと違うかもしれません。僕、5年間の独学のあとで、日本語の知識の穴や聞き取りや発声などを手伝いにもらいに個人レッスンを加奈先生と受けに来ました。アメリカで住んでるまま、日本語で喋ったり練習したりする機会はあんまりありませんし、直接経験で日本語母語の先生とレッスンを受けるのが僕にとってすごく効果的みたいに見えました。僕が加奈先生を選んだ時、全然間違えていませんでした。 僕は恥ずかしがり屋で、母語でも、ましてや外語で話してみるとこういう恥ずかしさが10倍になるみたいな感じです。加奈先生と初めて授業を受けた時、思ったより速く落ち着けて加奈先生に慣れられたので、とてもびっくりしていました。それから来週のレッスンに待ち遠しくなります。加奈先生は日本の文化や、加奈先生が日本で住んでいた時の面白いストーリをよく話したりしてくれますし、1時間のレッスンにたぶん～20分くらい会話します、日本語で！ さらに、まぁもちろん僕と他人の経験は異なるかもしれませんが、加奈先生は手作りの教材と使ってて、いい練習になったり、日本の文化をよく経験できる雰囲気になったりです。こういう教材が、自分の能力や知識を深く試験します。で、もし何かを理解できなかったり手伝ってもらいたかったりするとき、質問を思いついたら、加奈先生がいつも歓迎して答えてくれます。 要するには、あなたの日本語の勉強のために、加奈先生がいい学習環境を備え付けられるということを僕は保証できます！

Kana was very patient. She explains grammar and context very well. She is extremely helpful with everyday Japanese word usage. Kana can explain the slightly different meanings of similar words in Japanese. All this is incredibly useful to me. It was a very useful and productive hour.
