I am an experienced, results-driven tutor with over 10 years of experience tutoring students. I hold a PhD in philosophy from the University of Pittsburgh and a BA in Mathematics and Philosophy from Franklin & Marshall College. I have taught at the college level and tutored math at all levels as well as philosophy and writing. I have also tutored and taught test-prep classes (primarily SAT and GRE) as well as ESL classes. I am happy to adapt my teaching style to best meet a student's needs.
While I have expertise in philosophy, academic writing, and can also offer tutoring in German, my tutoring specialties lie in mathematics, in particular Calculus I, II, and III. I have extensive experience tutoring high school math as well (from Geometry to pre-calculus to AP calculus). I believe that students learn best when they are given the tools to succeed. This means showing students the concepts and steps needed to solve a problem and then ensuring they have mastered those concepts. While I often work with student's whose immediate goal is raising their grades, I also make sure that students are walking away with the conceptual knowledge and practical skills needed to continue to succeed in their studies.
If you are looking for help with a particular topic, want to improve your grades, or preparing for a specific exam, you have come to the right place. I tailor each session to each student's goals, background, and learning style. I especially enjoy working long-term with the same students as this gives the background needed to make sure that student's continue to succeed over the long term.
