Hello all! My name is Ari and I am a certified 7-12 math teacher in the state of Pennsylvania. I attended the University of Pittsburgh (H2P!) for both my undergraduate degree in mathematics and my master's degree in teaching secondary mathematics. In high school I was a tutor for Math Honor Society which sparked my interest in teaching. In undergrad, I was a teaching assisstant for 2 and a half years for Algebra and Business Calculus. I led recitations and review sessions, often reviewing the current topic and then answering student questions by working through examples. Throughout my time as a UTA, I also held walk-in tutoring hours at our Math Assistance Center and tutored students 1-on-1.
During my masters program, I student taught 8th grade math and Algebra 1 for a full school year with an average class size of around 20 students. The units I created were centered around student's prior knowledge. My goal is to make math fun and interesting for all of my students, so I utilize authentic learning tasks to make my lessons engaging. I often try to relate the material to student interests or create problems that represent student experiences. During my student teaching, I also led a pull-out math class called "Math 8+" for students who needed extra help. There were 7 students in this class and we spent time working 1-on-1. Sometimes this involved reteaching a lesson from class, other times I worked with students on practice problems and IXL skills. All of my students in this class saw major improvement to both their grades and IXL diagnostic score, most jumping 2 grade levels!
