Teaching has always been essential to my own learning and growth, and I have been tutoring since being an undergraduate, where I earned a B.A. in Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. As a previous peer tutor in the Washington University in St. Louis Writing Center, I facilitated fellow undergraduates and graduates through the writing process for academic and professional assignments. It has always been important to me to provide straightforward and honest feedback while allowing the writer to showcase their own voice. I have been trained specifically in the non-directive teaching style.
Upon entering medical school at University of Pittsburgh, I continued to mentor premedical students, focusing on personal statement and secondary essay editing. I have served as a medical school admissions interviewer as well as sat on the Admissions Committee, giving me a unique perspective on the application process. I have continued to pursue tutoring and teaching opportunities, most recently delivering a lecture to the University of Pittsburgh Writing Center on how to tutor personal statement writing. I would love to work with students at any stage of the process, whether that be brainstorming ideas and crafting a narrative or polishing a final draft.
