I'm a Chemical Engineering student studying at the University of Pittsburgh with a music minor. After working with students on both the high school and college level I realized that students needed the ability to access assistance with courses outside of the classroom. I work with the curriculum provided by the teacher to help the student achieve success by working through topics they are struggling with on a timeline that will set them up for success in their class as well as boost their understanding of the course material on a fundamental level.
I have experience tutoring students in calculus based physic 1 courses on the collegiate level through my position as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Pittsburgh for the physics department. I worked 1 on 1 with students during office hours, where they would come in with questions they had about the homework or the course material and I would use their questions to set up practice problems. I worked through practice problems with the students at first assisting them in the problem solving method and then reduced the amount of involvement I had in the problem solving process to ensure that they will be able to do it without assistance when I'm not there to help. I believe that a solid foundation in problem solving skills is essential to being successful in STEM courses and my method of tutoring is based on this.
Additionally, I worked with the National Honor Society peer tutoring program for two years in high school to tutor students in chemistry and algebra based physics. Students would set up an appointment through the counseling center and I would be contacted with information about the content we would be covering. I worked through practice problems and course fundamentals to boost their understanding of the course using methods similar to the ones I used as an Undergraduate Teaching Assistant.
As a college student I am typically available in the late afternoon and evenings on weekdays and all day on weekends.
