Hi! I’m Gabriel, currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University. I graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology with experience with a rigorous STEM course load including Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Complex Analysis, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and AP Physics C.
I have tutored students of different ages and skill levels over the years, ranging from elementary school students who are just starting to study math and coding to high school students who are preparing for competitions or the AP curriculum. What makes me different from many other tutors is that I’ve recently experienced the same academic challenges my students face while at the same time, I’ve accumulated years of hands-on teaching experience.
I've instructed USACO Silver-level competitive programming at AlphaStar Academy, where I help students develop problem-solving ability for coding competitions. As a USACO Platinum Division contestant and AIME qualifier, I have significant competitive experience that I draw upon to teach. I am proficient in multiple coding languages including C++, Java, Python, and JavaScript and have been coding for 5+ years. I've taught competition math for middle school at Sunshine Academy. I’ve also invested my own time studying for exams like the ACT and SAT, achieving a perfect 36 in all categories and a 1570 (790 Math, 780 Reading and English) on my first tries. I know what worked best for me while learning and can translate the experience into teaching others efficiently. My philosophy of tutoring is founded upon empathetic, student-centered learning. I strive to make students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes while keeping them focused on what they are learning. I tailor every session to the individual, whether the goal is to succeed in schoolwork, place in math or CS competitions, excel in standardized testing, or build fundamental coding skills.
