Hello! I'm Avi. I'm an undergraduate mathematics major at Case Western Reserve University, and I believe math should be exciting, not scary, and physics should be empowering, not overwhelming.
I love to learn almost as much as I love to teach, but my high school grades didn't always reflect that. I understand how academic stress and performance anxiety can rob you of your joy of learning incredibly cool stuff, so I'm here to remind you that you've got this! You can definitely do it, and I can definitely help. Worried about the math on your SATs? I got a 790, and I can show you the tricks while helping reinforce the content. I've maintained a 4.0 in college, excelling in both calculus and physics, so if you're struggling to prepare for AP exams or master calc 3, I'm here. Or if music is more your jam, I'd love to help you prep for the AP Music Theory exam. I'm still pretty proud of my 5 in sightreading, and music remains an important part of my life today. Sometimes you can even catch me live on WRUW-FM, spinning jazz classics and modern standards.
I've tutored and taught both formally and informally, working with small groups and 1:1 for about 3 years. At CWRU, I am a Supplemental Instructor for the mathematics department, and I take a ton of pride in my ability to translate complex concepts into smaller components. I frequently pause to check for understanding, and I'll often use analogies to reinforce big ideas. I also believe deeply in the importance of bolstering students' confidence. Because I have ADHD, I have direct experience with how differentiated instruction and individual accommodations can best meet learning objectives. I've helped students improve SAT scores, understand coursework, and ace final exams.
I'm pursuing a math degree, but no matter what, my future goals will keep one foot firmly in academia. I genuinely love teaching, and I really enjoy assisting students of any age or proficiency level find their own appreciation of and excitement for math and physics.
