For the past twenty-two years I have taught every academic level of American History, American Government, Citizenship Education and International Relations.

My time in the classroom as a certified teacher (Degrees in Citizenship Education, History and Political Science) is spent helping students to understand, appreciate, question, evaluate and comprehend the experiment that is our republic. For the past twenty-two years I have taught every academic level of American History, American Government, Citizenship Education and International Relations.

Preparation for the full USCIS interview / exam is a core tenant in the American Civics class that I am humbled to teach. I have guided countless individuals in building confidence and knowledge as they proudly prepare for naturalization via the U.S. citizenship test.

My hope for both my classroom students and those that I tutor, is that they value and are able to celebrate OUR shared American history. Having an understanding of the social contract that we have entered into better equips all of us in becoming highly functioning citizens.

History has always fascinated me. I was fortunate to study history, political science and citizenship education in college while playing football on the side. I have a soft-spot for students who cannot wait to tell me about their extracurricular activities be it band, drama club, athletics, artistic endeavors, or hunting and fishing excursions.

A wide array of students walk through my classroom door on a daily basis. Some of the students have a full schedule of AP and Honors classes. Others have various emotional and academic IEP accommodations. Special needs students have a seat at the table as well. All of the students share the same rights, responsibilities, and obligations to learn and grow to the best of their ability.

While I have the honor of teaching material that is "new" to most students (mainly in the Socratic Method) I am also continually seeking new knowledge (and more efficient ways of passing on that knowledge). If I can assist in the quest of helping someone to think constructively for themselves then it is a victory.

With over twenty-two years of classroom experience and degrees in Citizenship Education, History, and Political Science, I provide personalized tutoring tailored to individual learning styles. My patient and supportive approach focuses on helping students master key civics concepts, build confidence, and develop effective test-taking strategies designed to conquer tests such as the Florida Civic Literacy Exam (FCLE). Having successfully guided 32 students to passing FCLE scores in 2025 and an additional 18 thus far in 2026, it is a privilege to support these students and share in their success. I am dedicated to delivering the high-quality preparation, resources, and encouragement needed to give every learner the best possible opportunity to thrive on their way to that, “next step.”

As a certified history teacher with 20+ years of classroom experience, I have been privileged to mentor and assist numerous current and future history teachers master and pass their required History Praxis Exams. Whether this is your first attempt at the History / Social Studies Praxis or you find yourself discouraged because of previous endeavors at passing, together we will unlock your full confidence and potential. I passed the Social Studies Praxis with a score of 198/200 (now updated as Praxis 5581), the World / U.S. History Content Knowledge Praxis 5941, and the Elementary Education Social Studies Subtest Praxis 5004 (often listed as Praxis 5904) with exemplary scores using the same strategies and methods that I am eager to share with you. The skills and tools required to heighten your proficiency for both the analytical and fact-based portions of these exams are utilized in my classroom on a daily basis and I am happy to tailor an individualized plan and walk alongside anyone serious about seeking assistance.

Outside of the brick-and-mortar setting I have assisted countless prospective citizens gain confidence in their English pronunciation, N-400 interview skills and comprehensive Civics clarity as they prepare for the USCIS interview / exam (citizenship test). A TRUE GEM

I want to express my gratitude to Marty. He played a tremendous part of me passing the FCLE exam. This was an exam I put off for years & the only thing I needed left to pass to earn my AA degree in college. I took the exam 3 times, only to fail all of them. That was until I tutored with Marty (and thank God I found him)! I only wish I had found him soooner. He's very structured/neat in how he teaches & how he presents the material. He genuinely gave me the space to feel vulnerable about all the things I didn't know but really should've known. Not once did I feel judgment from his part; on the contrary, I felt invited to learn and ask more questions. I could quickly see how one idea/concept led to the next. All the while, he was very patient in explaining & simplified the concepts so I could grasp them. He helped me form the connections with key words, which made it all easier to understand & remember. To the point that it felt like storytelling. He truly sparked my natural curiosity about the history of our government. You won't regret learning from Marty; just come with a willingness to learn. He gave me the confidence and knowledge I needed to pass this FCLE exam, and I'm forever grateful! I only wish there were more Marty's in the world.

I had a great experience with Marty while preparing for the FCLE! He was always very positive, encouraging, and patient, which made me feel more confident while studying. He also provided Google Docs with helpful notes, practice questions, and other study materials that made it much easier for me to understand and remember the information. He explained things clearly and made sure I understood the material instead of just memorizing it. His tutoring and resources helped me a lot, and I’m happy to say that I passed my FCLE! I would definitely recommend him to anyone preparing for the exam.

Although it took me a little longer than most I’ve officially passed my social studies praxis with Marty’s support and encouragement the whole entire way. Marty never made me feel embarrassed or discouraged when I couldn’t get something right or when I was so close to passing, but wasn’t quite there yet. He worked with me and catered to the way that I study best. He is an outstanding Tutor and made me believe in my knowledge as well as work through my own test taking anxieties and showed me that I understand the material. I truly don’t think I would’ve been able to pass this exam without Marty‘s help. I spent many hours prior to finding Marty studying in every way I knew how, but having someone who can understand how you study best and build a study schedule with you that shows in and out of the exam is worth every penny. When I first met with Marty in I want to say may (could be sooner) I had gotten 2 130s and over the last 5 months we have continuously worked and worked to get this praxis done.
