College Counseling

I am studying at Carnegie Mellon University for my B.S in Music and Technology, a tri-college degree between music, computer science, and electrical engineering. I have worked with the admissions office for 3+ years in aiding the admission officers, speaking as a rep for my program, and as a point of contact for prospective students. I have a lot of experience with admissions letters, portfolios and non-traditional applications (specifically for the arts), and with general application assistance/admissions questions.
Drums

Drums

I am a professional percussionist with high level skills on drum set and mallet percussion. I studied professionally through the collegiate western music curriculum and have performed in various ensembles, orchestras, and bands, on many sample tracks, and in multiple cover sessions. I have a performance focus of jazz, rock, funk and fusion for drum set and a focus of jazz, theatrical showtunes, and classical for mallet percussion.

Among other topics, I have experience with dictating one, two, three, and four part harmonies on single or multi-instrumental works as well as interval, pitch, and rhythmic dictations.

Music Theory

I have studied music theory professionally for about 6 years and have been a performing musician and audio engineer for about 14 and 8 years, respectively. I a written, aural, and vocal background in theory, including dictation, sight singing, and counterpoint. I love teaching music theory to new students for the first time and helping those who are familiar and need assistance advancing.

I have proficient background in film work and camera techniques, production software and industry standards, as well as video and audio editing. I have directed, produced, and edited a variety of short films and I have a specialty in audio and film sound. My degree of B.S. in music and technology gave me a strong background in production software and experience with creative teams for films, music videos, audio work, and editing. Audio and Video generally go very well together in the industry so I have had a decent amount of exposure to both. I have also done script work and scene analytics as well as narrative video production.

Expert, patient, and knowledgeable tutor

Philomena was amazing! Even before the tutoring session, she took the time to research an issue with an audio file associated with a video. Then during the tutoring session, Philomena gave guidance with the volume levels/mixing of the audio, both technically and artistically. Philomena is a newer tutor on the Wyzant platform, but I couldn't recommend her more highly.
