Hello! My name is Madeline (she/her). I graduated summa cum laude from Clark University with a Bachelor’s Degree in English and German Studies and a Master’s of the Arts in Teaching. I have my Pennsylvania Instructional 1 teaching license for 5th through 12 grade English and Language Arts. I have also passed the Pennsylvania German World Language Praxis Exam, which would allow me to teach German PK-12.
Between obtaining my undergraduate and graduate degree, I worked as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Greifswald, Germany. I assisted in English Language classrooms at a secondary public school and tutored multiple students and one coworker from varying linguistic backgrounds after school in both English and German. For my M.A.T. practicum, I taught five classes of 10th grade English and Language Arts at both honors and academic levels. When I returned to Pittsburgh after teaching in Massachusetts, I volunteered with Literacy Pittsburgh. I tutored adults from different linguistic backgrounds in English Language acquisition. For two years, I worked as a tutor at a public Montessori school, where I assisted students ages 6 through 11 with their math and ELA assignments and help them through daily social and emotional challenges.
I currently work as a Mobile Instructor for a local nonprofit, helping students grades K-8 who have recently experienced unstable housing situations to catch up on their school work and strengthen their foundational skills in all subjects.
Through my many teaching and tutoring experiences, I’ve found that I enjoy working with all ages of children and adults. I am able to scaffold my lesson plans to meet the needs of my students, taking into account their learning goals, interests, different learning styles, and any barriers to accessing the material. I consider myself a lifelong learner, so I’m always eager to develop new ways of understanding alongside my students.
Please contact me with any questions. I look forward to hearing from you!
