My name is Don, I'm a full time working professional photographer. I've taught photography since 2007 through a variety of cultural institutions including Phipps Conservatory and the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden, I currently see students with special needs through the State Office of Vocational Services and have worked with a variety of students over the years in a wide variety of settings.

I'm an event and portrait photographer who spends a great deal of my free time doing nature and fine art photography. I really do live, eat, and breath photography. More importantly I understand how to teach about it in a fun, practical, and impactful way.

I myself have ADHD and mild auditory processing issues. I've also taught students independently, through the state as a contractor, and in schools. I've worked with children and adults who are neurodivergent and have a solid understanding of how to teach neurodivergent students. I'm empathetic, direct, and patient. I know concepts take time to learn and I always give my students the time they need. Photography is very mathematical as well as creative so I often blend the two. Relying on the mathematics to help students understand how to practically create photos while also helping them to use photography to tell the stories that they have inside of themselves.

I fell in love with art at a very young age. I would sit and watch my neighbor, a portrait painter, for hours. It was the only activity I could sit still for. I gravitated towards art in school and earned my degree in photography in 2001. As a full time working professional I use photoshop every day. I take professional photos nearly daily, and teach photography to several students every week. I worked for two years developing, writing, directing, editing, and producing an online show with the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh on Maker Culture called the Makeshop Show. Some videos are still available on Youtube. I still produce some video footage and edit my video work for clients.

Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop

I use Photoshop daily as a full time photographer. I began using Photoshop in the early to mid 1990s while still in high school both in my photography class and in two years worth of commercial art classes. I further learned to use Photoshop in college in numerous digital darkroom classes, image manipulation classes, and a few graphic design courses that I took in addition to my photography classes. I've used Photoshop and other similar programs ever since on a near to constant daily basis. I've done graphic design work and graphic user interface work for clients and my self.

Photography

I've been a professional photographer since 2001 and owned my own photography business since 2007. I'm a full time event and portrait photographer. I've also taught photography in a variety of settings since 2007 including through institutional partners including Phipps Conservatory and Botanic Garden, the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden, and through the State of Pennsylvania Vocational Rehabilitation Office which helps students with disabilities learn applicable skills for future employment.
Video Production

Video Production

While my professional work is more geared to still photography I do offer videography services and worked in partnership with the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh for more than two years on a project called the Makeshop Show where I produced, wrote, directed, edited, and published videos for kids on a variety of subjects related to "maker culture" and STEAM learning (science, technology, engineering, ART, and math). For my commercial clients I do provide video production, editing, and more. I've taught video production to students privately since 2007 and typically have between 1 and 5 students a year.

Don did a great job explaining Photoshop to me for a specific thing I want to learn. He even sent a follow up email explaining some of the steps we covered.

Don did an excellent job. I had some initial login problems, and he was patient. Went through various settings and he had me up and running in our allotted time frame. Wil call on his services when I get to the next huddle. Thanks Casey
