With some technical engineering experience, 5+ years as a classroom science teacher, and now 3+ years of STEM tutoring, I believe that I’m now a well-rounded educator who can help anyone achieve their goals. Whether you need support with a highly-technical course or conceptual understandings more grounded in reality, problem sets or reports, if you’re an advanced learner or struggling with organization and foundational skills, I can meet you where you’re at and help you grow.
At this point, I’ve seen just about every teaching method, word problem, diagram, symbolism, etc., and can easily adjust to what your class requires and/or what will help you specifically to wrap your head around the work. And, if we don’t find immediate success, I am persistent and will put in work outside of our sessions to ensure improvement.
Perhaps one area that sets me apart as a tutor is my preparedness. While I certainly can give lessons on short notice and answer your questions on the fly, I also like to ensure that we're efficient with our time and that I don't create confusion by doing things too differently from your professor. For example, if the course is AP, IB, Regents, etc., I will review the symbols used and the grading policies beforehand - I've even looked over a few college syllabi for this reason. And if you can send me an assignment ahead of time, I will look it over and perhaps solve some problems ahead of time so that I have clear explanations ready and we don't waste time exploring dead ends.
For regular clients, I'm also happy to communicate over messaging as often as you'd like. I will provide regular feedback on growth and needs in both technical and non-technical areas. And for quick questions, I'm happy to help without setting up a lesson and charging. I'm also fortunate to be quite flexible, so please don't hesitate to ask if you can push back a lesson or reschedule.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

As a HS physics and chemistry teacher, I always worked closely with the math department, ensuring alignment with our planning -- and I spent plenty of time covering and observing algebra 1 and 2 classrooms. I now tutor STEM subjects of all types, including many varieties of math: basic arithmetic with 5th graders, algebra 1 and 2, geometry, trigonometry, accounting, calculus, GED topics, etc. I've seen probably every teaching methods at this point to where I can not only help students through problems, but also build on the strategies they've been using in class and help find the ones that work best for them.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

My high school teaching experience was mostly with introductory physics and chemistry courses, which heavily involve algebra. In that time, I often planned with the math department, and spent plenty of time covering and observing algebra 1 and 2 classrooms. Since I stopped classroom teaching 3 years ago, I have been tutoring STEM subjects of all types, including many varieties of math: basic math with 5th graders, all secondary school math, accounting, calculus, GED, etc. I believe I've seen enough algebra and teaching methods at this point to be able to not only help students through problems, but to also build on the strategies they've been using in class and help find the strategies that work best for them.
Calculus

Calculus

I've used and taught the basics of calculus throughout my career in STEM and STEM education. My most recent relevant experience is tutoring calculus for college undergrads through a NY-based non-profit that helps students from public high schools succeed in their first years of college.
Chemistry

Chemistry

I am a licensed HS science teacher in NY and Colorado, taught intro chemistry for 2 years, and have now tutored from middle school through undergraduate. I have tons of resources (my own and a collection of great sites) to help you visualize/understand the many obscure topics. And, with my technical background, I can also help you through some of the more complex (and sometimes annoying) math topics.
Physical Science

Physical Science

Physical science is just a broad term for what's generally an introductory course covering some physics, some chemistry, and some earth science. When I taught for 5 years in NY, I always had at least one class like this, where students explored all sorts of physical science through mostly hands-on activities and focused on the big concepts at play. So, I have a ton of experience just helping young students process how the world works. But, I also come from a technical background (mechanical engineer), taught high school chemistry, physics, and engineering, and regularly tutor advanced students up through undergrad. So I can come at physical science from all angles and can certainly help you through your course (however it's designed).
Physics

Physics

I hold degrees in mechanical engineering and adolescent physics education, taught physics and engineering courses in NYC for 5+ years, and am a licensed science teacher in both New York and Colorado. Since I left the classroom around 3 years ago, I've been tutoring physics constantly at all levels - including middle school, high school (AP, IB, Regents, etc.), undergraduate, and even adult professionals. Mechanics is my specialty - I love the subject and love teaching it to others. Whether you're struggling with the concepts, the math, or just interpreting your assignments, I can help you see things from other angles until it all clicks. And maybe I can get you to enjoy physics as much as I do.
Poker

Poker

Poker has been a passion/profession for me since college. Before I got into teaching, I played professionally full-time with a mix of online and in-person games, while also coaching some low stakes players to move up the stakes. When I became a teacher, poker remained a hobby that I pursued seriously over the summers, and I always had a strategy game club with my students where teaching the basics of poker to beginners featured heavily. Now that I'm no longer in the classroom, I'm back ahead of the curve with poker. And, with my experience as a teacher and tutor, I'm more able than ever to help beginners and low stakes players advance to where poker can become a profitable hobby, job, or just a way to hustle their friends. Specific/poker nerdy stuff: I'm well-versed in GTO solutions throughout the game tree, mostly using GTO wizard to look at specific spots and hone my intuition. I also study the game constantly with other professionals, including a high-stakes coach where we focus on population tendencies and relevant exploitative strategies. Throughout the years, I've subscribed to countless training programs: BluffTheSpot, CardRunners, RunItOnce, DeucesCracked, BlueFire, etc, and have studied content of all other types (books, vlogs, YT trainings, podcasts). I have a strong grasp of modern poker theory while still being grounded in traditional poker knowledge like psychology and tells.
Praxis

Praxis

In 2019, I received a recognition of excellence on the general science exam prior to becoming a licensed science teacher (7-12) in Colorado. I've also been a licensed HS teacher in NY and currently tutor all sorts of STEM topics (primarily physics, chemistry, and math). I have excelled on every standardized test put in front of me, and coached many students to do the same. I even still have my old PRAXIS review materials.
Precalculus

Precalculus

I've used most precalculus concepts regularly throughout my ~20 yrs in STEM. I'm also currently tutoring calculus for undergraduates, and constantly help HS science find connections between our work and their precalculus classes.
Regents

Regents

I taught both physics and chemistry in NYC. We used Regents standards, Regents reference tables, Regents practice problems, and many students went on to take the Regents exams. In fact, I still use those reference tables when tutoring high schoolers. Additionally, I grew up in NY, so I took every Regents imaginable from 1999-2003, and got 90+ on all of them.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

Trigonometry is foundational to the STEM work (primarily physics) I've done in the past ~20 years. Although I've never taught math directly, I've taught most trigonometry concepts from many angles (get it?). Some trigonometry can be tricky with all of the identities, but I legitimately enjoy that work and helping students navigate it.

Awesome poker coach

I've been working with Christopher for a few months now and he is very knowledgeable of the game of poker. I started out as a complete beginner and he has taught me everything from pre-flop strategy to hand reading, from bluffing to bluff catching, and much more! I already am able to dominate my home game with friends and have also had success playing at the casino, thanks to Christopher. I would recommend him to anyone who wants to take their poker game to the next level. His lessons are worth it.

Insightful and chill tutor.

Chris helped me improve my game plan and take it to next level. He taught to me to pick-up on certain repeat patterns from players and when to raise, check or fold accordingly. The time went by really fast and it moved quite quickly. Totally recommend and would do it again!

College Physics - Commited to my daughter’s success

Christopher is tutoring Amy in College Physics 202 this semester. He tutored Amy for College Physics 201 with great results. I love reading the lessons summary and the fact that Chris follows up on items that may have not been resolved during a lesson. He also helped Amy prepared for exams by helping create formula sheets. I have no hesitations recommending him for any students that is looking for a physics tutor in college.
