My name is Yang L; I usually go by Charlotte. I am currently a grad student in TESOL at Penn GSE and will graduate this May. I am always a passionate teacher and a scholar of languages (including modern ones and ancient ones), ancient history, and literature. I am currently an ESL teacher at Philadelphia Northeast Academy, responsible for an adult ESL online program. I started teaching last August. This program requires 4 hours of teaching each week. Starting from this January, we switch to 2 hours of teaching each week (because our students are too busy). And I am also a Chinese teacher at the Chinese Academy of Philadelphia, teaching beginner-level Chinese to non-heritage learners of Chinese. This class is a 1-hour session that only meets on occasions/ certain weekends. My co-teacher and I are responsible for designing lesson plans and class content.
Prior to this role, I was a teaching assistant of Latin I class in a DC public school: The school without Walls. Starting from Jan 2018 to June 2018, I served as the TA for this Latin class. I was responsible for monitoring class activities, assigning homework, making tests, grading, and teaching. I designed my lesson plans and implemented them for 2 weeks as my individual teaching.
In the near future, I would like to develop my career in teaching ESL/ Latin/ Literature as I enjoy working with students and helping them to develop their academic success as well as their interests/ hobbies and other aspects of their life. I would love to see my students excel.
