About Alex

Bio

I'm very passionate about the Liberal Arts and love exploring a student's questions on a text or subject and how it pertains to their own experience of the world. I emphasize critical thinking methods in my sessions as well as close, active reading skills and clear, persuasive writing techniques. I don't practice a one size fits all approach to tutoring and recognize each student is a unique thinker in their academic journey.

Some of my teaching experience includes my service in Peace Corps as a full time English Teacher in Nepal as well as one on one tutoring sessions as an undergraduate in college. My main focus is in Philosophy and Psychology but I'm excited to explore most subjects with a student.

I will put together an English curriculum focusing on your individual academic needs and goals. Whether it is focused in more specific areas of Clear Writing, Critical Reading or Literature, I'm flexible in meeting you with where you currently are in our tutoring together.

I love Philosophy, Religion and Classics, and, even more, I'm very passionate about your own relationship with an historical text. In our tutoring sessions together, I want to hear your critical interpretation of an author and whether we can expound upon it together by challenging the points being laid out, or by changing our own thoughts on their views. In this way of socratic teaching, our tutoring is covering both the nuts and bolts of historical knowledge while strengthening our own arguments through some of the most influential thinkers.

If you feel I'm a good fit for you, I'm ready when you are!
