Hello! I am a tutor with a background in software engineering, having worked in the industry for 6.5 years. I graduated from Notre Dame in 2014 and transitioned from medicine to software engineering. I am currently tutoring on the side because it is something I've always enjoyed. I am available to tutor for web development/CS, algebra 2, calculus, physics, test prep (MCAT / GRE / SAT), or something unique if I have the skills to help.
I try to teach in a way in which I would like to learn....
I try to teach in a way in which I would like to learn. I'm interested in building a collaborative environment -- both with an adequate level of challenge and difficulty, but also sufficient support and guidance. As a personal policy, there is never judgement around curiosity and questions are encouraged! You can always ask me anything you like. That's what makes the job fun imo :)
In terms of general mechanics -- I like to go through most subjects (math or cs) pretty sequentially (or if you have a curriculum). I tend to focus on depth over breadth and patterns over details (but sometimes they're unavoidable). Because math and cs are cumulative it is highly worthwhile having a solid grasp of a section before moving forward. I'd rather us get through a single topic and you feel comfortable and strong in that area rather than rush through a bunch of material.
Also please let me know if you have any personal goals or interests/projects you are working on. When possible, I'll try and point out techniques and topics that might be relevant for you. But as a side note, just to discourage certain requests, I cannot assist with specific homework assignments or projects in a way that would violate academic honesty policies.
