Bio

My name is Yaki, and I'm currently a Junior in Temple University's Honors program, where I major in Computer Science, with minors in Mathematics and Data Science. I first started programming in Python as a hobby over 7 years ago. Along the way, I've picked up C, C++, Java, MATLAB, and some bits and pieces of other languages. This has enabled me to join SAP, the world's third largest software company. I spent a year at SAP interning as a backend software engineer, working primarily in Java....

I spent a year at SAP interning as a backend software engineer, working primarily in Java. Now, I've transitioned into working on cutting edge artificial intelligence technologies as a machine learning engineer intern. At Temple, I had the opportunity to conduct deep learning research (Principle Investigator Dr. Longin Jan Latecki) in the computer vision group for a year, working with Convolutional Neural Networks and Hopfield Networks.

What started as a side gig has evolved into a passion for teaching. After realizing my love of teaching, I had the opportunity to co-teach the AP Computer Science Principles course at one of Philadelphia's public high schools. I've also spent the past two years as the lead instructor for an after school advanced Java programming course for high schoolers. For this advanced Java course, I designed the entire curriculum (lectures, projects, exams, and more) according to the topics covered in the AP Computer Science A and Oracle Java SE 8 I certification exams.

I love teaching students math and programming/computer science and seeing those new topics click. When I graduate from Temple, I plan to pursue a PhD in Computer Science and to become a professor.

I'd love to get to know you better to learn about your specific educational needs and how I can help meet them. And even if I can't meet you/your student's particular needs, I'd love to point you in the right direction.

Note: I don't tutor in CPE/ECE topics (circuits, architecture, etc) or USACO!

very patient and explains everything

I have had about 7 or 8 lessons so far with Yaki. He’s extremely patient and easing going. Breaks things down for me to understand and answers every question. Sometimes things are hard for me to comprehend the first time around so he is taking the time to make sure i truly understand what he is teaching me. He has also recommended multiple resources for me to study from which has been beyond helpful. Hes made engaging which is a big help for me

Excellent communicator

Taught me to problem solve which is an important part of python programming. He also help guide me to the answer instead of just doing the work for me. I will definitely recommend him to anyone that is struggling to understand certain concepts. Sometimes all it takes is for the information to be presented in a certain way for them to click. He is good at this.

Sharp, clear, and concise Java instructor

Yaki is very smart and sharp. I was a little hesitant on choosing Yaki as a java instructor due to his young age and that he is still in college, but he has surpassed my expectations on what he can help me understand in Java. He is clear and concise on the way he explains concepts of java. He then follows up with a visual of each concept, building on each concept one by on to help me grasp everything easily. I highly recommend Yaki and you will be very happy with your decision by choosing Yaki to learn java.
