College Counseling

I have tutored high school students for 4 years in college application building, leadership, and standardized tests. They have subsequently gained admission into several Ivy League institutions and top-tier programs. I am a first-year MD student at Johns Hopkins and am eager to expand my services to include students who are seeking graduate school acceptance. I usually like to meet with the student for a preliminary meeting to understand what their goals, capacity, and deadlines are. We then work together to create a plan that spans a few weeks or months and has very specific SMART goals and deliverables to hold us accountable. With my extensive tutoring experience, I have talked to several undergraduate and graduate admissions committees and also bring this valuable insight to all my student encounters.

Genetics

I have taken genetics and upper-level biology courses in high school, college, and in medical school and have gotten A grades in these courses consistently. As someone who is in medical school, I apply these concepts daily and am very comfortable using the terminology and ideas needed to pass exams or work on projects. I have tutored high school genetics and IB biology HL for the past four years and have co-authored a manuscript on the genetics of colorectal cancers.

Hindi

I was raised in India until the age of 17. I studied Hindi in school until the 10th grade and in college, I took a placement test that placed me into Ph.D. level Hindi. I am fluent in reading, writing, and speaking. I have published many pieces of Hindi poetry which are available in online literary journals.

MCAT

I scored a 519 on my first try (2021) on the MCAT (129, 131, 129, 130). I graduated summa cum laude as a pre-medical student at the University of Michigan and am now a first-year medical student at Johns Hopkins. The MCAT is a very challenging exam, however, having been through the gamut, I have a lot of helpful resources. I believe learning should be active and thus I never conduct a lesson focused solely on lecturing. Rather, I explore concepts with my students through worksheets, videos, problem solving, and application of concepts. I believe that practice makes perfect and I provide my students with as many helpful problem sets or resources for them to do on their own time as well. I also believe in visual learning and often teach by connecting an iPad to the computer which allows me to draw out diagrams and simplify concepts. I have several pdfs worth of material that I will draw on that I used for my own success and am happy to help a student with these resources.

Physical Science

I am a medical student and thus have had to take physical science classes from 7th grade until today!

Proofreading

I am a published writer (both creative and academic) and I have an English degree from the University of Michigan. I also have 4+ years of experience tutoring writing and helping students produce poignant and successful essays.

Public Speaking

I have run in 4 student government elections and won them all. Each has required me to campaign, write, and deliver speeches to large audiences. I have also been valedictorian and given speeches in front of my college and high school. I was also in the debate club and Model UN for several years. Beyond this, as a creative writing and English major in college, I have experience with persuasive writing. I also studied theatre and drama in high school and was in the theatre club recreationally in college.

USMLE

I am a medical student who has passed STEP 1 after a 4 week study period and have experience tutoring young medical students learn the challenging topics and test-taking strategies that are required to pass on their first attempt. I have been a tutor for the past 6 years and am passionate about helping individuals in the healthcare space achieve their dreams in the most efficient manner.
