For some Biology can be a challenge. By using the Cornell University method of note taking I believe that the concepts will be easier to understand and tests will be less stressful. I look forward to working with any and all students that need my assistance.

I have many years of experience tutoring students in the subject of Biology which ranges from middle school level to the college level. As an instructor, I focus on improving the student's understanding of the critical details of the many different sub-fields of Biology and how they all work together in the human body (and the ecosystem for the Ecology field). When it comes to test preparation, I also teach important test taking skills specific to standardized test in question i.e. NY Regents, SAT II, etc. I also, explain the general theme of certain exams to help students understand what level of understanding the exam is testing.Ultimately, I look to build the student's confidence, if not their interest, in the subject of Biology.

I have approximately thirty years of experience as a high school teacher. During my tenure, I had the pleasure of teaching the Living Environment curriculum, including the required state labs. The topics covered included, but were not limited to, connections, biodiversity, heredity and genetics, the systems of the human body, photosynthesis, and the food chain. Students were involved in differentiated instruction and were fully engaged in interactive peer review.

Content will focus around major biological concepts which include: analytical skills and interdisciplinary approaches to discovery. The major biological concepts explored include the classification of organisms, cell structure and function, the change and diversification of organisms, ecosystems and their interactions, and the influence of humankind on ecosystems. As a former medical student and researcher, I have accumulated many years of study in biology.Biology is a memory based class that is based on the student’s ability to recall facts. As opposed to simply teaching the facts, I help the student to develop their own faculties of studying, learning, forming mnemonics, time management, and creating a repetition schedule. This ensures that the student is studying more efficiently and can remember more for a longer period of time.I teach all subjects with the same fundamental process. I evaluate a student's baseline ability and identify the types of thinking skills that can be developed. I then design specific homework assignments and "brain exercises" to not only improve their grades, and their performance in future classes, but improve their ability to think. My goal is to impart skills, not just information.
