Experience:
For three years, I tutored Finite Mathematics, Calculus, Algebra, and more for the math department at Indiana University. In high school, I co-taught my school’s AP Music Theory course, and helped raise the class average AP score to the highest it had been to date!

About me:
My greatest passions are music, mathematics, and helping others develop their own musical and mathematical abilities. I graduated with a 4.0 from Indiana University with a major in music composition and minors in mathematics and electronic music. In high school, I was a straight-A student, National Merit Finalist, standardized test whiz, and AP Scholar, admitted to both Harvard and Yale. Rather than going the Ivy League academic route, I decided to pursue my musical goals in college and major in composition. Now that I know what it’s like to master the “game” of high school, college admissions, and college math courses, I want to pass that knowledge on to others and give them guidance and support to work towards the same!

What to expect:
Tell me what your goals are, and we’ll make a plan to work toward them! As we work on topics together, I’ll ask you questions and share examples with you to help you figure out why the answer is what it is. We’ll discuss math concepts in non-mathematical English so that you’ll develop an intuition for them and develop the skills to figure out difficult problems in the future.

Qualifications:
In high school, I did a lot of math! I qualified for the American Invitational Mathematics Examination and represented Colorado at the American Regions Mathematics League. Listed below are my scores and awards for subjects I tutor:
Perfect ACT score, SAT math score, and Math II SAT Subject test score
99th percentile SAT score
2016 National AP Scholar
5’s on AP English Literature and Composition, AP English Language and Composition, AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, AP Music Theory, AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism, AP Physics C: Mechanics

In addition to composing, I love to teach. I’ve worked as a math tutor for IU’s math department, and in high school, I co-taught my school’s AP Music Theory course, and helped raise the class average AP score to the highest it had been to date!

I'm a graduate student studying music composition at the Curtis Institute of Music, and I recently received my Bachelor of Music in composition with the Highest Distinction (the equivalent of summa cum laude) from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Theory and aural skills is one of my favorite areas of study! I studied on my own to test out of all aural skills requirements and to test out of the first three levels of theory so that I could focus on maintaining a 4.0 and taking Theory IV (Romantic era), Honors Theory V (post-tonal theory), and Mathematical Music Theory. I earned the top awards in counterpoint, harmony, and solfege at the European American Musical Alliance. In high school, I co-taught my school’s AP Music Theory course, focusing particularly on ear training, and helped raise the class average AP score to the highest it had been to date!

Sight Singing

I’m a music composition major in my senior year at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where I sing in NOTUS, the contemporary vocal ensemble, which has given me ample practice in developing strategies to sight-sing difficult music. Theory is one of my favorite areas of study.
