I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with my PhD in English in 2023. Before that, I graduated from Princeton University with a degree in English (honors) in 2017, as well as certificates in African American Studies and Gender Studies.

I have 10 years of tutoring experience and enjoy watching students grow into critical readers and writers. Before entering graduate school, I taught at an after school program for middle school and high school students where I created and taught a class on history and literature.

Elementary: Using the phonics method, I work with K-5th grade students on reading fluency and comprehension, writing, and spelling. I use materials such as digital flashcards, digital worksheets, phonics games, and I have a collection of over 400 children's books, some of which are digital. Methods align with Common Core State Standards.

Middle: I offer feedback on written homework assignments and help students organize their writing and strengthen grammar, diction and style. I also teach literary analysis.

High school: In addition to the same services I provide for middle school students, I work with high school students who are conducting research for papers by teaching research methods & writing. For students who don't want help with specific assignments but want guidance in fostering a love for literature, I have my own literature curriculum and writing activities with a college-prep focus.

College: I have experience in grading and providing feedback on written work for college students at all levels.

Great and pleasant

Another great week. Destiny’s methods are really improving Ja’Kai’s confidence and his overall willingness to do the work has definitely improved. He studies the work she assigns for the week to review and is excited to meet with her every week. I continue to have confidence in her method and know he will be performing at the academic level he should in no time. I am very grateful for her and her patience, techniques and professionalism.

Great tutor - very patient

Today’s lesson was great because I see that with continued lessons with Destiny he will get to a great place academically. I see a lot of potential in the method she chose and again agree with her findings. Everything she says after the assessment or lesson is everything I noticed myself which is what motivated me to get a tutor in the first place. Thank you Destiny for your great efforts.
