This past semester I have expanded on my TA experience in my work as an Adjunct Professor at The Tyler School of Art and Architecture, where I teach a Sketch Book Class for non-majors. This class combines studio instruction with on-site drawing in landmarks throughout Philadelphia. In this course, I primarily emphasized my students' development of their observational skills and drawing techniques, but also take care to allow for their exploring of different mediums and modes of making. We have delved into a number of drawing exercises and approaches, including but not limited to making and drawing from sculptures, learning techniques of perspective and figure drawing from a live model.
Apart from my teaching at the undergraduate level, I also have experience working with students of a variety of ages. Over the past five years, I have held summer art workshops for Rock Properties, hosted in the company’s numerous apartment buildings throughout New Jersey. Open to all families living at the properties, these classes are comprised of students of all ages. In each of these workshops, we explore a wide range of subjects and mediums including painting and collage. Additionally, I have taught high school students while working as a painting apprentice teacher at the Putney School Summer Programs. I am very excited to further expand my teaching skills with new age groups and focuses.
Since receiving my MFA from Tyler School of Art in the spring of 2019, I have been working as an artist assistant for esteemed Philadelphia painter and Guggenheim Fellow Dona Nelson, as well as teaching at Tyler as an adjunct professor. During this time, I’ve instructed students on a number of drawing exercises and approaches.
