I teach both lower- and upper-level college courses, many of which specifically focusing on improving the writing skills of students. I have additional experience working with high school students prepping for the AP art history exam as well as with high school/undergraduate students on humanities essays and school/job application essays.

It's my goal to motivate you and guide you through the learning process! We can work on developing your art historical knowledge and/or collaborate on any and all parts of the writing process, from developing an argument, to finessing syntax, to proofreading.

Please be in touch if you think you'd like to work with me or if you have any questions. I look forward to hearing from you!

Art History

I am a historian of American Art, and specialize primarily in the period between the Civil War and World War II. As a Senior Lecturer at university, I have gained valuable experience in interacting with a spectrum of people coming from a broad range of backgrounds, and in fostering a community of artistic inquiry, learning, and appreciation. My ability to communicate clearly is constantly employed when working with students, and my students consistently remark that I am approachable and engaging in their evaluations of my class.
Grammar

Grammar

I teach students how to analyze visual and written sources in a manner proper to the discipline of Art History and how to write a paper according to the conventions of the discipline: thesis development, the use and citation visual evidence and written sources, cogent argumentation, effective organization, the construction of coherent and unified paragraphs, and the crafting of complex yet clear sentences whose grammatical structure accurately mirrors the logical relations between the ideas they express. Students in my courses are required to write and revise a series of papers.

I proofread and edit all of my students' written work, and have graded 500+ undergraduate papers.
Reading

Reading

Research is an integral part of my job as an academic art historian. Reading, and, more importantly, reading comprehension, are essential skills that I've built up to high levels. Likewise, I teach my students how to skillfully and efficiently read in order to complete their assigned research papers. This also includes assessing the usefulness and validity of individual sources.
