During my career in academia (Cornell, UC Berkeley), government (NASA) and industry (several web start-ups), I’ve had a few opportunities to teach. These teaching experiences have been extremely rewarding. This is why I’ve chosen to pursue teaching as a path.

In college, I was a teaching assistant for a 2nd semester college computer science foundations class. The job involved private one-on-one tutoring at a walk-in center a few times a week, plus group sessions before exams.

While working at NASA Ames Research Center, I joined their outreach program and mentored a robotics club at a San Leandro, California middle school, helping students build a new robot each year with which we competed in the national Robocup competition.

I've also taught bass and guitar since high-school.

I am sensitive to other people's emotions and thoughts and accommodate to each student's needs uniquely. I never lose my patience.

For repeated lessons, my method starts with setting goals and evaluating the student's strengths and weaknesses. We then devise a plan. We always monitor how we're progressing and shift focus accordingly to the areas that need most help.

In one-time lessons, I can help you with a specific concept, homework problem or to prepare for a test. In any of those cases, I focus on understanding the material so that you can continue to solve similar problems on your own.

I've found that my passion for programming helps me motivate my students.

Let's discuss further exactly what type of help you might need.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

In 2017 I was accepted into the NYC Teaching Fellows program to teach high school mathematics, which covers Algebra 1 (I'm currently in the process of applying to a different public high school math teaching program, called "Teaching Collaborative"). Throughout my career, I've been working with the mathematical concepts and tricks of Algebra 1 and I enjoy explaining them, that's why I chose math teaching as a path.
Computer Programming

Computer Programming

I have been a programmer since childhood. In my career, which spans several related fields, my main activity has always been programming. I've had several opportunities to teach programming: (1) I've tutored undergraduates one-on-one and in groups, as a teaching assistant for computer science courses and privately; (2) I was an official note taker in computer science undergraduate courses for a company that published those notes for sale; (3) I mentored a robotics club at a middle school in San Leandro, CA for a couple of years. I've also had a thorough computer science education, which began with middle school courses and ended up with a bachelors, masters, and PhD in programming intensive fields. Since I've been in the working world, I've kept up with new ideas and tools in computer programming.
Computer Science

Computer Science

In college, my job as a teaching assistant was to tutor students in a second semester computer science foundations class , for several hours per week, at a walk-in center. I have always been a programmer who cared less about the language used to program in and more about the underlying principles - data structures and algorithms. I have a Bachelor's degree and a Masters of Engineering in Computer Science from Cornell, a PhD in theoretical neuroscience (computer modeling of the brain), a career in computer vision and robotics and most recently front-end and back-end work at a series of start-ups - in all these jobs I was a programmer or a software architect. This has enabled me to keep up with the new concepts and patterns in the field.

Five Stars Tutor--Knowledgeable and super patient

Aside from being brilliant and thorough, Doron is very patient, and I, as a beginner programmer really appreciated that. Can't imagine a better tutor. I will definitely reach out to him again.
