I've enjoyed working with students of all ages for over 10 years, helping them find their competence & confidence. I provide comprehensive tutoring in a variety of subjects, with specialties in language skills and the SAT & ACT. I've found that a level of informality improves communication and builds rapport with my students, and that learning about their struggles & strengths, preferences & personalities, lets me present material in a way that they can connect with. Lessons are definitely more productive when they don't feel like a chore!
For test prep, in addition to reviewing the specific language & math skills involved, we will explore general strategies (e.g. best ways to approach each question type, identifying & avoiding the "trick" questions, how to deal with a boring or dense reading passage, etc.) and build stamina & comfort in testing conditions -- these tests are marathons, not sprints.
