I am a student at the University of Pennsylvania with a strong academic background in science, mathematics, reading, and writing, and I am especially interested in working with elementary school students. Before college, I received national and regional academic recognition, including being named a CSEC National Performer being 7th in the Caribbean for Integrated Science and earning a bronze medal in mathematics at the Caribbean Science Olympiad. I have always enjoyed learning, but I also understand that academic confidence often depends on having someone who is willing to slow down, explain a concept differently, and make it feel manageable.
I have approximately four months of teaching experience working with younger students in an educational setting. Through this experience, I learned that children rarely benefit from having information explained the exact same way repeatedly when they are struggling. Instead, I break concepts into smaller steps, use examples and visuals, ask students questions throughout the lesson, and give them opportunities to work through problems themselves. I am patient with mistakes and encourage students to tell me when something does not make sense. My goal is to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions rather than becoming frustrated or embarrassed when they do not immediately understand something.
I am focusing exclusively on elementary-level students and can provide support in elementary math, science, reading, writing, homework, and general academic skills. Lessons will be adapted to each child’s age, current ability, schoolwork, and learning style. Whether a student needs help catching up, strengthening foundational skills, completing homework, preparing for an assessment, or simply becoming more confident in the classroom, I want them to leave our sessions understanding more than when they arrived, and feeling proud of the progress they made.
