I've been tutoring for over five years and have worked with more than 500 students, from elementary schoolers to high school seniors, across 40+ countries. Much of that came through Schoolhouse.world, the free peer tutoring platform started by Sal Khan. As a Senior Tutor there, I logged over 100 hours of one on one and group sessions and earned more than 400 positive learner ratings. Eventually, I helped train and review new tutors as well. Locally, I spent three years at PATHWAYS for Exceptional Children teaching programming and robotics to students with disabilities. I have also coached students privately for MATHCOUNTS, the AMC 8/10/12 series, F=ma (entrance exam for the USA Physics Olympiad), and Science Olympiad.
A session with me usually starts by separating real understanding from rote memorization. Once I find the gap, I'll explain the idea a couple of different ways and work through a problem together. Then I'll hand the student a similar problem and have them walk me through it. Some students want homework help, some are patching old gaps, some are trying to get ahead, and the pace changes accordingly. I respond to messages quickly and I'm glad to answer any questions before scheduling a session. Feel free to reach out.
