My name is Aria! I have a Master's in economics and a dual Bachelor's in economics and mathematics, with a minor in music. While my formal degrees are in STEM, my first love has always been music. I've played the violin since I was 4 and have been writing music since I was 8. When I was in high school I won two concerto competitions and got to solo with those orchestras, an incredible experience which gave me a firsthand perspective on what really matters when you have to project well and command a room. It also awakened in me a love of solo playing that has shaped my repertoire and study choices throughout my playing career. I also composed my first symphony in 2024, as well as many smaller pieces for orchestra or for myself to play on the violin. I taught 5 violin students on a long-term basis while I was still in high school ranging from late elementary school to college age, some of whom stayed with me from when I started teaching late in 10th grade all the way until I left for college!
A huge part of what helped me transition out of the "kid practicing because their parents told them to" phase and into real self-actualization was the flexibility my own teachers allowed me to have to explore the dark, forbidden corners of the repertoire and to even mix my lessons with my love of composition. I strongly believe in that general philosophy of flexibility and would love to work with students who have big dreams and enjoy being a little unorthodox. I really enjoy the collaborative dialogue of music-making and helping you express yourself freely.
In part due to the impracticality of teaching technical fundamentals online, I am primarily looking for students who may already have a decent amount of playing experience and want to work on refining their musicianship, including all the little technical nuances that go into more musical playing. For composition students, basic music theory knowledge is preferred. I don't enforce a style, but I personally am a highly Romantic composer.
