EXPERIENCE
In addition to teaching college writing and literature, I've worked with students on middle-school and high-school English papers, undergraduate coursework, and graduate academic writing. I'm equally comfortable helping seventh-graders with argumentative essays as helping grad students sharpen conference papers, equally comfortable helping fifth-graders make sense of a literary passage as helping college students synthesize research and their own interpretation of a text. I also tutored adult learners of English as a second language, helping improve their language skills to prepare for college or strengthen their business communication.
APPROACH
Every student's learning process is different, and I start new student-tutor relationships by figuring out what you need and how you learn best. I evaluate where you get stuck, whether that's organizing ideas, building an argument, or just getting words on the page, and I match my explanations of logical and grammatical concepts to your natural spoken and written rhythms, with special attention to cross-lingual comparisons and differences.
NEURODIVERGENCE
I've worked extensively with students who have ADHD and/or autism. I tailor process, pacing, and structure to what works for each individual learner, and students who have felt frustrated with traditional instruction learn to love writing when their personal needs and preferences form the basis of instruction.
