Hi! My name is Ysabella, and I recently graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, where I double majored in Biology and Medical Sociology, minored in Chemistry, and earned a Spanish certificate. I tutor a range of subjects, including science, math, English, writing, Spanish, sociology, study skills, and college preparation. My strongest areas are biology, math, sociology, academic writing, and helping students develop organized, effective approaches to learning.

At Penn, I served as the Head Learning Assistant for General Chemistry Labs, where I supported undergraduate students with chemistry concepts, lab work, problem-solving, scientific reasoning, and preparation for lab assignments. I also worked as a Writing Fellow at the Marks Family Writing Center, where I helped students brainstorm ideas, organize outlines, revise drafts, strengthen arguments, and improve clarity in their writing. These roles gave me experience working with students both one-on-one and in group settings, and they taught me how to adjust my explanations based on each student’s learning style and level of confidence.

My academic background has also helped me become a stronger tutor. As a Biology and Medical Sociology student on the pre-med track, I developed a strong foundation in the sciences while also learning how to communicate complex ideas clearly and thoughtfully. I have experience with research, scientific writing, and college-level study strategies, which allows me to help students not only understand content, but also build the skills they need to become more independent learners.

My tutoring style is patient, encouraging, and organized. I like to meet students where they are, identify what feels confusing, and break larger concepts into smaller, manageable steps. During sessions, I use guided examples, practice problems, discussion, and review strategies so that students can apply what they are learning. My goal is to make each session supportive, productive, and tailored to the student’s individual needs.

Essay Writing

Essay Writing

I am an Undergraduate Writing Fellow at the Marks Family Writing Center at Penn, where I provide one-on-one writing support to undergraduate students across disciplines. I was selected as one of 12 undergraduates from a pool of 1,019 writing seminar students and completed 34 hours of pedagogical training in writing center theory and practice. Through this role, I help students strengthen their writing process, clarify arguments, organize ideas, revise drafts, and set goals for writing projects. I have over 250 hours of experience mentoring students with writing.
Sociology

Sociology

I am majoring in Sociology (conc. in Medical Sociology) at the University of Pennsylvania and have completed university-level coursework focused on health, illness, inequality, disability, and social structures. My academic background has given me strong experience analyzing sociological theories, applying course concepts to real-world examples, and writing clear evidence-based essays. I can help students understand key sociology concepts, organize their ideas, prepare for discussions or exams, and strengthen their written assignments. As a trained Undergraduate Writing Fellow, I also have experience supporting students with argument development, revision, and academic writing.
Spanish

Spanish

I am a native Spanish speaker with advanced Spanish coursework from the University of Pennsylvania, and I received a 5 on the AP Spanish exam. My background has strengthened my skills in Spanish reading, writing, grammar, conversation, and cultural analysis, especially related to Hispanic and Latin American cultures. I can help students with grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, reading comprehension, writing assignments, and building confidence in the classroom. As a trained Undergraduate Writing Fellow, I also have experience helping students organize their ideas, revise their writing, and become stronger communicators.
