I'm Rosa and I'm passionate about helping middle school students build confidence and master challenging subjects. I hold a Master's degree in Middle Level Education from the University of Pennsylvania (4.0 GPA) with certification in grades 4-8 social studies and English language arts. I also recently completed my Advanced TEFL certification, which has deepened my ability to support English learners and students who need targeted language support.

Over the past four years, I've taught seventh and eighth grade social studies in Philadelphia public schools, working with diverse learners in both whole-group and small-group settings. My teaching experience has given me a deep understanding of how middle schoolers learn best—through engagement, real-world connections, and supportive feedback. Currently, I tutor eighth graders in math and English language arts at Tutor Me Education, providing homework support in algebra and reading comprehension. I've found that one-on-one tutoring allows me to tailor my approach to each student's learning style and pace, something I couldn't always do in a classroom of thirty students.

My tutoring methods focus on building foundational skills, breaking down complex concepts into manageable steps, and creating a safe space where students feel comfortable asking questions. I'm bilingual in Spanish, which helps me support English learners and their families. Whether you're looking for homework help, test prep, or support building reading and math skills, I'm here to help your student succeed.

Approved Subjects

African American Studies

African American Studies

I bring five years of specialized experience teaching African American history and civics through inquiry-driven, student-centered instruction in Philadelphia public schools. My expertise includes designing rigorous units on African American achievement, civil rights movements, and systemic justice issues—exemplified by student-led performances on Powell Johnson and Madam C.J. Walker, a field trip to the National Museum of African American History and Culture, and guided analysis of texts like Lorraine Hansberry's "A Raisin in the Sun." I employ primary-source analysis, structured discussion, and project-based learning to help students develop historical reasoning, empathy, and evidence-based argumentation around complex topics related to race, identity, and social responsibility. My culturally responsive pedagogy, combined with fluency in Spanish and experience supporting diverse learners, ensures that all students can access rigorous African American studies content and connect historical knowledge to their own lived experiences and civic engagement.
Elementary (K-6th)

Elementary (K-6th)

I have over five years of experience working with elementary-age students across grades K-6 in diverse educational settings, including classroom teaching, tutoring, and summer enrichment programs. My expertise spans foundational literacy skills—reading comprehension, writing techniques, and phonics—as well as social studies instruction grounded in inquiry-based learning and primary-source analysis. I hold a Master's degree in Middle Level Education with state certification for grades 4-8, complemented by a Bachelor's degree in English from Bryn Mawr College and recent TEFL certification, which strengthens my ability to support English learners and students with varied language backgrounds. I differentiate instruction through flexible grouping, scaffolded activities, and culturally responsive teaching practices, ensuring all elementary learners—regardless of ability level or background—develop confidence, critical thinking skills, and a genuine love of learning.
