Hi, I'm Isabella! I'm a Johns Hopkins-educated writer and educator with seven years of experience in education and nonprofit work. I've been a classroom teacher, curriculum writer, and college advisor, and I'm looking forward to getting to know who you are as a thinker and learner.
Here's a little bit about my background: I hold a B.A. in The Writing Seminars from Johns Hopkins, where I received the Jacob H. Hollander Award for Excellence in Writing, and an M.A.T. from Johns Hopkins, where I was named a Baltimore Education Fellow and Maryland Teacher of Promise. I spent three years as a fourth grade classroom teacher in Baltimore City, developing differentiated, culturally responsive curriculum for students across a wide range of skill levels and needs, including students with IEPs. I've also worked one-on-one with high school and college students as a college advisor, managing a caseload of 85 scholars and helping them navigate academic, financial, and personal challenges. To keep my skills sharp, I mentor middle school- and college-aged students at various nonprofits in the Philadelphia region.
My approach is student-centered and individualized. I meet students where they are, ask guiding questions, and model thinking skills and routines that they can apply to any subject. I come prepared with explicit instruction and opportunities for practice, but also know that the best lessons are responsive, creative, and fun. Whether working with a fourth grader on a creative writing piece or a college student on a personal statement, my goal is always the same: help you find your voice and build confidence in what you can do!
