Hello, I'm Oliver!
I have a B.S. in engineering with a focus on embedded systems from Swarthmore College. Over the past 5 years I’ve worked as a private math tutor, Spanish tutor, as a volunteer for the Reading Partners organization, and as a math tutor for the Chester PA Children's Chorus program. I've enjoyed tutoring in individual sessions, small group & classroom formats, and with students of all ages. I now tutor Algebra 1&2, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus.

I love getting to share what I know about these subjects! I think people learn best when they feel positively about their relationship with education, so I focus heavily on adapting how I teach to fit each student’s academic and personal needs. A typical lesson begins by introducing a new subject in a fun way using real-world examples. I’ll work step by step through some problems, where I encourage students to ask lots of questions until they have a general understanding of the content. I then have students gradually take more of a leading role in working through exercises until they feel comfortable navigating it on their own. We spend time discussing any areas of confusion, and I ensure students can explain their work to make sure we come away with more than a surface level understanding of what’s going on. We can practice with contextual problems, challenge questions, and discuss how this relates to the rest of the content they’ve been learning.
Whether you feel like you can’t keep up with a class, or you want to keep your grades where they are, school can get pretty stressful. So often it just takes someone to meet a student where they are–to explain things in a way that works for them–for things to make sense. It’s important to me that students are offered teaching styles that help them learn best, so they can meet whatever academic goals they might have. Feel free to reach out if you’d like any more information, or to schedule a session!
