Hi! My name is Erica and I recently defended my PhD in Biology. My interest in Biology began during my undergraduate years at a T20 institution. This interest led me to pursue a PhD, in which I specialized in microbiome research and had a heavy focus on Statistics as well. During my degree, I had two opportunities to teach, both in molecular biology lab practical classes. Through these experiences, I learned about the importance of individual education, as each student brought unique backgrounds and interests to the classroom. I found that individual meetings during office hours were far more useful for both me to individually help each student and for the student to better understand the material. It is for these reasons that I developed great relationships with my students and they all expressed sadness when the semester was over, and asked whether I would be teaching anything else!
While my PhD was in Biology, much of my research involved Statistics and have always excelled in other math topics like Algebra. Finally, I've always been an avid reader and writer. My peers would often run their personal statements by me for both content review and also proofreading. These skills were further developed during my PhD, during which I authored multiple published papers.
