About Hunter

Bio

I’m a published author and journalist with a degree in Philosophy and Media Studies, and a minor in Anthropology from UC Berkeley. While at Cal, I served as Editor-in-Chief of The Berkeley Review, our campus literary magazine, and published a record number of pages and stories. I’ve also worked professionally as a copywriter and journalist, so I bring both academic rigor and real-world writing experience to my tutoring sessions.

I began tutoring informally while in college, helping peers with literature papers, personal statements, and creative work. Since graduating, I’ve worked one-on-one with high school and college students on everything from Common App essays and UC PIQs to grad school statements of purpose and advanced literature analysis. My approach is collaborative and empowering — I meet students where they’re at, then help them find clarity, voice, and structure.

As a reentry student from a nontraditional background, I understand how intimidating writing can be. But I also know firsthand that a well-told story can change your life — my own college essay earned me a 90% scholarship to UC Berkeley and got me into every school I applied to. Now, I help others do the same. Whether preparing for college, refining their essay skills, finding their creative voice, or diving deep into classics and literature, I’ll help students develop the confidence and clarity to make their writing shine.

Classics

Classics

As a published author with a degree in Philosophy and Media Studies from UC Berkeley, I approach Classical literature with both analytical depth and narrative instinct. I’ve worked extensively with texts by Homer, Sophocles, Virgil, Plato, and many others, helping students explore their historical, literary, and philosophical significance. I specialize in guiding students through dense material, essay development, and comparative analysis — whether they’re in high school, undergrad, or just exploring the classics on their own. My goal is to make ancient texts feel alive, relevant, and rewarding to study.
College Counseling

College Counseling

As a published author and UC Berkeley graduate, I specialize in helping students craft powerful college admissions essays that reflect their true voice. I was a reentry student who earned a 90% scholarship and acceptance to every school I applied to — largely because of the power of my admissions essays. Since then, I’ve coached students into universities, art schools, and Ivy League programs. Whether you're applying to college, transferring, or writing a grad school statement of purpose, I’ll help you stand out with clarity, strategy, and confidence.
Creative Writing

Creative Writing

As a published author and former Editor-in-Chief of The Berkeley Review, I specialize in helping writers develop their voice, structure stories, and bring their ideas to life. I’ve coached students in fiction, memoir, and hybrid creative essays — from high schoolers crafting their first short stories to undergrads applying to competitive writing programs. My approach blends literary technique with emotional authenticity, helping you shape work that feels powerful, personal, and complete. Whether you're building a portfolio or just unlocking your creativity, I’ll help you find your voice, shape your vision, and bring your stories to the world.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

I specialize in helping students craft essays that are clear, compelling, and impactful. As a UC Berkeley Philosophy graduate, I bring a deep understanding of academic writing across disciplines — from admissions essays and literary analysis to persuasive arguments and research papers. I’ve coached students from high school through grad school, helping them build structure, strengthen ideas, and refine their voice. Whether you're stuck at the first word or need feedback on a final draft, I’ll guide you step-by-step to make your writing shine and your grades excel.
