Hi! My name is Alex, and I am looking for opportunities to help students achieve their academic goals! My specialties are History and ACT prep. I scored a 32 on the ACT in 2018, and I also received a score of 4 on the Advanced Placement (AP) tests for U.S. History and World History. I can also assist with English, some Math and some Science for youth of all ages. I can also help teach basketball, as I played it for most of my childhood all the way through high school. I am adaptable and flexible and am always willing to compromise to fit a student’s needs.
In terms of my tutoring approach, I like to start by identifying a goal to work towards and build up proficiency in the subject before testing the student prior to them applying what they have learned from me in their class. For example, if I am tutoring an Advanced Placement student, I would start by asking the student what score they would like on the test and if their emphasis is on receiving college credit. I would develop a lesson plan aimed at becoming an expert on taking the AP test in that subject, not just on knowing the material. If their goal is more aimed at expanding their knowledge base in a specific subject, I have a wide knowledge base that I can provide for that student. As a lover of trivia games, I love to share my knowledge with the world!
I live in the Roxborough neighborhood and am willing to travel up to twenty miles to appointments. I have a bachelor’s degree in social work and have two years of experience working with youth of all ages.
