Hello! My name is Deniz, and I am an MD-PhD student at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine (98th percentile on the MCAT, with a perfect score on chem/phys). I graduated cum laude as a chemistry major from Yale University, where I grew passionate about the intersection between chemistry and medicine. More importantly, I discovered the importance of collective and collaborative learning.
I have 5 years of experience helping students of all levels, from local middle and school students to my fellow Yale students, achieve their education goals. I have tutored in both individual and group settings, mostly focusing on standardized test preparation and STEM subjects (math, biology, chemistry, physics). I first work with each student to understand their background and goals so we can develop an individual plan that meets each student at their level. During tutoring sessions, I implement a two-pronged process that balances content knowledge with test-taking mastery. I make sure my students feel comfortable identifying and applying the core principles that will be tested, and we focus on strategies that teach students to think like a test writer. Through frequent repetition and practice problems, students quickly build confidence—key to performing well on exams—and have fun while learning.
